What is a helical pile?
A helical pile is a steel shaft with one or more helix-shaped bearing plates, screwed directly into the ground rather than poured or driven. The helix bears on the soil the way a screw thread bears on timber, which is why the technology has held up in the ground since it was first used in the 1800s, long before “screw pile” was a modern buzzword.
